It can be tempting to see inductions as a time-consuming burden that is nothing more than a box ticking exercise. Adopting this kind of approach will deprive your business of a wealth of benefits and could potentially end up costing you time and money.

A good induction process will immediately instil a positive view of the company within your new employee, as well as clarifying exactly what your expectations are within their new role. Don’t forget, they will be keen to impress! A short review of their new job, including the duties and responsibilities, will ensure that they know exactly what it is they need to do in order to create the favourable impression they are hoping for.

Inductions also offer the opportunity to provide your business with protection that may prove invaluable further down the line. A thorough induction that adequately covers processes, such as sickness absence reporting, and policies, such as Health and Safety, will enable you to communicate to new staff exactly what they should be aware of. Requiring that inductees sign to indicate they have received their training will provide proof that they have received all of the information and that you have met your obligations and they must meet theirs.
